Greetings

There is no greater joy than to see new people join us in worship. In our church family you will find people from all walks of life. You will meet people who are servants of Jesus Christ, who want to exhibit the Kingdom of Heaven in their life together, and who desire to impact their community and the world with the love of God. Our desire is to make you feel welcome as you discern if we are the people with whom God is calling you to walk alongside in your service to Jesus Christ.

History

Since 1834, before there was a town named Jerseyville, there was a Presbyterian presence in the community. First they met in homes, then a schoolhouse, later a wooden building and now in a beautiful stone church. Since 1841, we have occupied the site at the corner of State and Carpenter Streets – the crossroads of Jersey County – and have stood firm in our faith, seeking to serve the One Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We celebrate the spirit of those who have gone before us and dedicate ourselves to the LORD seeking to pass on to others the love of Christ that passes all human understanding.

Schedule a Visit

You are personally invited to attend any of our events. If you would like to visit the church during the week and/or meet the pastor, you may call the church office at 618-498-5423 Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. To learn more about the church, you may schedule a lunch with a member. Our Welcoming Team will strive to pair you with a member who may share your interests.

Worship Location and Times

We worship every Sunday at 10:00 am in our historic 1882 sanctuary in Jerseyville, Illinois. You may park in the parking lot across the street from the church or in the lot behind our church on Sundays which is used by the neighboring St. Francis School as their playground during the week.

Membership Information

If you are interested in becoming a member of First Presbyterian, you may speak to the pastor or any one of our worship greeters. We will invite you to a class to learn about us and Presbyterians and then schedule a time for you to meet with our Session. You may become a member by profession of faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and baptism, by reaffirmation of faith if you have been baptized, or by transfer of membership from another Christian church.
